Dr. Luying Xun

Research Interests

Prof. Xun is interested in how microorganisms interact with environmental factors, including pollutants and redox changes. One research area is on the biochemistry of microbial degradation and biotransformation of xenobiotics. He, co-workers, and collaborators have elucidated the complete metabolic pathways for the degradation of 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid, pentachlorophenol, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), and nitrilotriacetic acid. They also contributed to the identification of organo-Cr(III) complexes from bioremediation of chromate.
