Proposed New Molecular Biosciences Club Constitution

Article I: Name and purpose of the organization

Section 1

The name of this organization shall be the Molecular Biosciences Club

Section 2

Purpose:

  1. Promote communication between the students of the Molecular Biosciences Club.
  2. Provide a source of information concerning career opportunities available to students.
  3. Enhance the relationship between students and faculty.
  4. Promote community involvement at Washington State University and/or the city of Pullman.

 

Article II: Affiliation

Section 1

The Molecular Biosciences Club is affiliated with the Washington State University School of Molecular Biosciences.

 

Article III: Requirements for Membership

Section 1

Membership is open to all undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff of WSU.  There are no fees required for membership.

Section 2

The WSU Molecular Biosciences Club is open to all individuals regardless of race; religion; sex; age; color; creed; national or ethnic origin; physical, mental or sensory disability; marital status; sexual orientation; and status as a Vietnam-era or disabled veteran.

 

Article IV: Officers

Section 1

The officers shall consist of (one or two) president(s), field trip coordinator, vice president, secretary, public relations coordinator, and a treasurer.  Shared positions shall be allowed.  Other offices such as webmaster, publicity coordinator, micro-kit coordinator, etc. can be elected yearly if there are interested students and the need exists.

Section 2

The president(s) shall:

  1. Be the chief spokesman(s) for the organization.
  2. Preside over all meetings.
  3. Be responsible for any justifications of club decisions.

Section 3

The vice president(s) shall:

  1. Assist the president(s) with any duties they see fit to assign.
  2. Preside over meetings in the absence of the president(s). 
  3. Update the club website.

Section 4

The field trip coordinator shall:

  1. Plan and arrange a field trip for the group in a timely manner
  2. Coordinate with the treasurer for funds
  3. Listen to the group members to decide on a location and time

Section 5

The secretary shall:

  1. Keep a record of club business.
  2. Be responsible for advertisement of club events.
  3. Be responsible for correspondence from members and associates.

Section 5

The treasurer shall:

  1. Keep a record of the clubs financial expenses.
  2. Check over budget reports.
  3. Deposit any income from fundraisers.
  4. Be responsible for catering club events

Section 6

The public relations coordinator shall:

  1. Make flyers and post them around campus informing students about the club meetings and what to expect when attending.
  2. Fill the display boxes in Eastlick with information about the club.
  3. Help arrange for the club to advertise at events on or off campus.

Section 7
Members shall inform present officers that the have an interest in an officer position. The officers shall be elected towards the end of the academic year, or when the need arises.

 

Article V: Club Finances

Section 1

The sale of lab kits to MBioS 101, 306, and 341 lab classes are the primary source of financial support for the club.  All proceeds go into the club's FS&A account as mandated by the ASWSU policies. The club has the right to hold additional fundraisers and accept donations from outside sources at the club officers’ and advisor’s discretion.
Section 2

The balance of the club's FS&A account will never be allowed to be overdrawn.  If the club should disband and abandon the FS&A account for more than one year, any excess funds will be deposited in the account indicated on the previous year’s Organizational Report Form.  If no fund is indicated, any excess funds will be deposited in the School of Molecular Biosciences Account.

 

Article VI: Rules for amending the constitution

This constitution may be amended by the new officers for the upcoming academic year.
