Graduate Studies

Graduate Programs
Welcome to Graduate Studies in the School of Molecular Biosciences (SMB). SMB offers excellent research facilities and the flexibility to design an individualized academic and research program from a diverse and exciting range of topics and expertise.
The School of Molecular Biosciences has a graduate program that offers Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Molecular Biosciences (MBioS), for which students conduct thesis research, and a non-thesis graduate program that offers a M.S. degree in Professional Science Master’s in Molecular Biosciences. The MBioS graduate program is part of the interdisciplinary iPBS program within the College of Veterinary Medicine. Additionally, select Ph.D. students with interests in commercialization or industrial application of biotechnology have the opportunity to participate in the NIH funded Protein Biotechnology Training Program.

Doctoral & Masters Programs
The Molecular Biosciences (MBioS) graduate program offers outstanding opportunities for graduate students to pursue diverse and exciting research projects in the life sciences using state of the art equipment in a modern research building. All students take the interdisciplinary graduate curriculum and participate in innovative professional development opportunities.

Professional Science Master's Degree (PSM)
The Professional Science Master's Degree in Molecular Biosciences (PSM-MB) offered through SMB earned re-affiliation through the National Professional Science Master's Association (NPSMA) in Dec. 2017. Designed in collaboration with industry professionals, the PSM degree ensures that graduates are workplace ready. PSM graduates acquire both STEM disciplinary expertise and high-value, transferable professional skills to prepare them for successful employment.

Research Opportunities
Faculty in the School of Molecular Biosciences explore the cellular, molecular, and biochemical basis of essential life processes.
