SUPPORT IS NEEDED FOR RESEARCH
ON THE NITRIC OXIDE/PEROXYNITRITE THEORY
OF CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME, MULTIPLE CHEMICAL
SENSITIVITY AND FIBROMYALGIA
Funding
for research for CFS, FM and MCS has been difficult to obtain due,
in part to the many questions that have been raised by skeptics
about these conditions. The appropriate response should be to fund
research to answer these questions but more often, the response
has been to avoid funding these fields entirely. As a consequence,
these fields are infrequently funded, in comparison with other illnesses,
by the NIH and other organizations that have supported the bulk
of health-related research. Much of the research that has been funded
has focussed on issues peripheral to understanding the basic mechanisms
causing these illnesses.
The elevated nitric oxide/peroxynitrite theory of etiology of CFS,
FM and MCS is supported by many observations but most involve research
not designed to specifically test this theory. Therefore many of
the most applicable types of tests have not been performed. Your
gifts would be most useful in order to perform either pilot studies
to obtain more extensive funding or to perform complete studies
involving less expensive procedures. Seven types of such projects
that may be suggested as examples of potentially fruitful research
are found at the following link: Seven
Proposed Research Projects
You can make your gift now in support of this research with a credit
card through the Washington
State University Foundation’s website and click on “I
want to give” at the top right of the page.
Under “Use my gift in this manner:” enter [“School
of Molecular Biosciences – Chronic Fatigue Syndrome”
