Postdoctoral Research Position
Washington State University,
School of Molecular Biosciences

A NIH supported post-doctoral position is immediately available to pursue studies of Campylobacter jejuni, a leading cause of bacterial diarrheal illness worldwide. Research in the lab focuses on: 1) Identifying and characterizing proteins secreted from the Type III flagellar export apparatus using microarray expression analysis coupled with a genetic screen; 2) Monitoring changes in C. jejuni gene expression in response to alterations in environmental conditions and discovering changes in host cell gene expression in response to C. jejuni infection; and 3) Characterizing adherence proteins and developing novel colonization-blocking agents to reduce C. jejuni colonization of chickens. We are seeking to hire an exceptional individual who has expertise in monitoring gene expression (i.e., microarray and RT-PCR analysis) and who is interested in bacteria-host cell interactions.

The School of Molecular Biosciences has more than 35 faculty members who have earned national and international reputations as experts in their respective areas of research. The school has broad expertise that spans the fields of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics and Cell Biology, and Microbiology. Washington State University's Pullman campus is well equipped with state-of-the-art support facilities including the Electron Microscopy Center, Bio-analytical Laboratory, Nuclear Radiation Center, NMR Center, and an X-ray Crystallography Laboratory.

The Pullman campus, which serves approximately 22,500 students, is located in the rich agricultural area known as the Palouse in eastern Washington. Pullman is eight miles from University of Idaho in Moscow, and 70 miles south of the metropolitan city of Spokane, Washington. Pullman is also located near the Bitterroot Wilderness in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The region offers many recreational activities including mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing, fishing, hunting, whitewater rafting, camping, and hiking.

The salary is dependent on the individual’s experience. Healthcare benefits are provided. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in biochemistry, microbiology, and molecular biology. The deadline for providing applications is August 1, 2007. Please email or mail your curriculum vitae, the names and contact information of three references, and selected reprints to:
